Health Department Headquarters in Metro Bilbao flagship station / La Sede del Departamento de Sanidad en la estación principal de Metro Bilbao

Health Department Headquarters in Bilbao, built by COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS, is exhibit in Moyua station, designed by Norman Foster and central and flagship station of Metro Bilbao network.

The building is part of a unique exhibition distributed in the network of the Bilbao metropolitan railway. Stations welcomed the show "Dialogues, Bizkaian Architecture of the 21st Century", curated by Victor Ugarte, one of the central events of the BIA Urban Regeneration Forum, organized by the Bizkaia Chapter of the Basque-Navarre Institute of Architects.

La Sede del Departamento de Sanidad en Bilbao, obra de COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS, se expone en la estación de Moyua, la estación insignia y central de la red de Metro Bilbao, diseñada por Norman Foster.

El edificio forma parte de una singular exposición repartida por las estaciones de la red del ferrocarril metropolitano de Bilbao. Se trata de la muestra comisariada por Víctor Ugarte "Diálogos, Arquitectura Vizcaína del Siglo XXI", uno de los acontecimientos centrales del BIA Urban Regeneration Forum, organizado por la Delegación de Bizkaia del Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos Vasco-Navarro.

It was very exciting to talk about architecture to more than 400 new students on their first day at university in Madrid School of Architecture. Many thanks to everyone who filled the Great Auditorium. I hope to learn together and that you enjoy your stay at the University

The site ArchDaily (one of the leading architectural websites in the world) has released today the Firemen House, one of the last buildings completed by COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS.

Firemen House is a compact building that accommodates the central Fire Department for a one-million-people urban area. 

Like the old fire stations, the building takes its public presence towards a new and large urban square. The interior, however, is directed towards the distant views of the Valley that, in fact, must be protected by it. 

In these buildings, there is still a reference to some industrial constructions, those building-machines or process decanters that have transformed the history of the industrial cities and set off the lives of its people.

La web ArchDaily (uno de los portales de arquitectura más influyentes del mundo) ha publicado hoy la Casa de los Bomberos, uno de los últimos edificios terminados por COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS.

La Casa de los Bomberos es un edificio compacto que acoge los servicios de Protección Civil de un área metropolitana de un millón de habitantes.

Como los viejos edificios de bomberos, el edificio asume su presencia pública hacia un área urbana nueva y extensa. El interior, sin embargo, se vuelca hacia las vistas lejanas del valle que, de hecho, está llamado a proteger.

Persiste en el edificio una referencia a las construcciones industriales, aquellos edificios-máquina o decantadores de procesos que transformaron la historia de las ciudades industriales y pautaron también la vida de sus gentes.

The latest edition of the prestigious Architecture Highlights publication includes two chapters on the built work of COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS. Volume 7 of AH series glosses the best architecture built around the world during the past four years by prestigious international architectural offices. It is edited in Hong Kong by Shanglin in English language and is distributed worldwide.

According to the editors, the book "is a great collection of latest global design works in architecture. Strictly following the standards and views of architects themselves, the selected architects are very active in contemporary architectural stage. Their works always capture emerging themes and ideas in architectural design, bringing change, breakthrough and evolution to architectural field". 

La última entrega de la prestigiosa publicación Architecture Highlights dedica dos capítulos a la obra construida de COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS. En su volumen 7 glosa la mejor arquitectura construida en el mundo durante los últimos cuatro años por prestigiosos estudios internacionales. Está editada en Hong Kong por Shanglin y se distribuye mundialmente.

Según los editores, el libro "es una gran muestra global de la última investigación de las obras de arquitectura. Se han seguido estrictamente las pautas y los puntos de vista de los propios arquitectos seleccionados, quienes se distinguen precisamente por ser muy activos en la escena contemporánea. Sus obras se caracterizan por atrapar los temas emergentes y desarrollar nuevas ideas en el campo de los proyectos arquitectónicos, llenándolo de cambio, avance e innovación".

The man under The Blue Room / El hombre debajo de La Habitación Azul

This news has impressed me today. Experts from The Phillips Collection of Washington have discovered a portrait painted by Pablo Picasso and hidden under the painting The Blue Room, also painted by Picasso in 1901. Yes, I know that it is not uncommon, but it has thrilled me to open my eyes so suddenly to an image and a face who existed only in the memory of Picasso, wherever it is now. 

Look: there are deep resonances, also superficial relationships, and even mutual accommodations between the form of the man -who wears mysterious rings on his fingers- and the blue room. I confess that I was concerned about the idea of two characters sharing more than one century of intimacy without even pretending to look at each other's eyes.

Hoy me ha impresionado esta noticia. Los expertos de The Phillips Collection de Washington han descubierto un retrato pintado por Pablo Picasso oculto debajo del cuadro La Habitación Azul, pintado también por Picasso en 1901. Sí, sé que no es infrecuente, pero me ha emocionado abrir mis ojos tan súbitamente a una imagen y a un rostro que ya solo existía en la memoria de Picasso, donde quiera que ahora esté.
Fijaos: entre la forma del hombre -que luce misteriosos anillos en sus dedos- y la habitación azul existen resonancias profundas, también relaciones superficiales, e incluso acomodaciones mutuas. Os confieso que me ha inquietado pensar que los dos personajes han compartido más de un siglo de intimidad sin tan siquiera aparentar mirarse mutuamente.

Talking about California Architecture in American Space Madrid / Hablar de la arquitectura de California en el American Space Madrid

On June 3, 2014 I had the opportunity to talk about Modern Architecture in California in the American Space Madrid, a joint project of the Embassy of the United States in Spain and the International Institute in Spain. The event was brilliantly introduced by Amy Bliss, Cultural Aggregate of the United States Embassy in Spain. It was on the occasion of the presentation of the book La Casa California by Daniel Esguevillas and many friends and a lot of people interested in American culture were present, which produced an interesting debate. I thank you all for your kind participation

El pasado 3 de junio de 2014 tuve la oportunidad de hablar de la arquitectura moderna de California en el American Space Madrid, un proyecto conjunto de la Embajada de los Estados Unidos en España y del Instituto Internacional en España. El acto fue brillantemente introducido por Amy Bliss, agregada cultural de la Embajada de Estados Unidos en España. Con ocasión de la presentación del libro La Casa Californiana de Daniel Esguevillas, el evento contó con la presencia de numerosos amigos y mucho público interesado por la cultura americana, quienes produjeron un interesante debate posterior. The Architect is Present in ICO Museum / The Architect is Present en el Museo ICO

Juan Coll-Barreu participated in "The Architect is Present" in ICO Museum of Madrid. It is a project by photographer Miguel de Guzmán which is incorporated in the exhibition of the same name curated by Luis Fernández-Galiano, director of AV and Arquitectura Viva magazines.
