"(Ours) Hyperlocalization in Architecture" is the new Andrew Michler "book about architecture's new place" published by eVolo in Los Angeles, CA. COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS' E8 Building and Health Department Headquarters in Bilbao are widely featured in the book, as well as two long interviews with Daniel Gutiérrez Zarza and Juan Coll-Barreu.

According with the author, "The expressive nature of wrapping is an antidote to shape making for its own sake. The formulation of these projects is in the service to the sun, which by nature starts with site. Solar control is also about coaxing gentle daylight deep into a space. These are the real solar-powered buildings. Design dialog then can commence with an inventive palette of materials, shapes, and expressions, allowing contemporary architectural expression to acclimatize to its place. Perhaps this is why Spanish architecture in particular is so well-versed in solar control. In a place of sun, these buildings navigate light like a mariner crosses the sea."

Undoubtedly, Michler's book provides the global contemporary view that was so necessary about true sustainability in architecture.

"(Ours) Hyperlocalization in Architecture" es el nuevo libro de Andrew Michler "sobre el nuevo lugar de la arquitectura" publicado por la editorial eVolo en Los Ángeles, California. Los edificios E8 Building y Health Department Headquarters en Bilbao construidos por COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS están extensamente publicados en el libro, así como sendas entrevistas con Daniel Gutiérrez Zarza y Juan Coll-Barreu.

Según el autor del libro, "la naturaleza expresiva de la envoltura es un antídoto para que la forma no se desenvuelva por sí misma. La formulación de estos proyectos está en el servicio al sol, que por naturaleza comienza con el lugar. El control solar busca también que la luz natural entre sueve pero profundamente en un espacio. Estos son los verdaderos edificios con energía solar. El discurso del diseño puede comenzar a partir de allí con una inventiva paleta de materiales, formas y expresiones que permiten que la arquitectura contemporánea se aclimate a su lugar. Quizás esta es la razón por la cual el control solar esté tan bien desarrollado en la arquitectura española. En un lugar de sol, estos edificios conducen la luz como un marinero cruza el mar."

Sin duda, el libro de Michler ofrece la visión global y contemporánea que era necesaria sobre la verdadera sostenibilidad en arquitectura.

On Keller Easterling and Ramon Faura / Sobre Keller Easterling y Ramón Faura

Juan Coll-Barreu has published two introductions on the authors Keller Easterling, professor at Yale School of Architecture, and Ramon Faura, professor at Barcelona School of Architecture. The essays are part of two separate volumes of the Talkument collection, published by DPA Prints, the publishing factory of the Department of Architectural Design at the Madrid Superior Technical School of Architecture ETSAM.

Juan Coll-Barreu ha publicado dos presentaciones sobre los autores Keller Easterling, profesora de la Escuela de Arquitectura de Yale, y Ramón Faura, profesor de la Escuela de Arquitectura de Barcelona. Los ensayos forman parte de sendos volúmenes de la colección Talkument editada por DPA Prints, la fábrica editorial del Departamento de Proyectos Arquitectónicos de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid ETSAM.

On the Gehry effect / Sobre el efecto Gehry

Issue 1 2015 by Grand Tour magazine is a special issue dedicated to American architect Frank Gehry and some of his most iconic buildings, including the new Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. All featured buildings are open for the public to visit. Photography by Danica Kus, Marchand & Meffre and Markus Anderson. Juan Coll-Barreu offers his personal vision through the article "No rivals. A vision on Frank O. Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall and Guggenheim Museum Bilbao."

According to magazine director Marianna Wahlsten, "The ‘Bilbao effect’ has become an exhausted term, Juan Coll-Barreu, architect from the Basque country with offices in Madrid and Bilbao points out in his article, but without Gehry “the modern discourse on architecture would have been dangerously homogenous”. As someone working and living by one of Gehry’s icons he has witnessed the transformation since the opening of the Guggenheim in 1997. For the post-digital generation of architects the increased play with sculptural form seems natural."

El número 1 de 2015 de la revista Grand Tour es un número especial dedicado al arquitecto estadounidense Frank Gehery y a algunos de sus edificios más representativos, como su nuevo edificio para la Fundación Louis Vuitton en París. Todos los edificios publicados están abiertos al público y pueden visitarse. Para este número han realizado fotografías Danica Kus, Marchand & Meffre y Markus Anderson.
