The Textured Tower by COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS is open / Abierta la Torre Texturizada de COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS

A few months ago we published on the blog some pictures of the Textured Tower under construction. Now the tower is finished and in use. It is again a building without constructive details. The concrete and steel are virtually the only materials used. We are concerned to avoid finishing elements. So much so that the memory of the process of the construction work remains alive in the building. This means that the user can access the same subject of the project. The project and use come to coincide. It also makes us feel awake, not well-to-do.

At home in Europe, of course.

The Bucharest architecture conference organizers have asked me a feedback from the Lecture in the Grand Ballroom of the JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel. At the risk of seem like an obvious remark, I summarize with the expression that I felt at home in Europe. During the Conference we heard great German, Austrian, Dutch, Italian, Balkan... architects explain his work. The diversity and openness have been the only common feature of works as diverse as interesting. I have been able to confirm something I already knew: the Architecture is alive in the continent. How different the atmosphere that sometimes can experience in Spain, where a majority interest current ensures its own permanence and rejects "deviations", projective research and personal ways.

Mies van der Rohe in full-color / Mies van der Rohe a todo color

We are used to seeing Mies van der Rohe in boring black and white photographs. It is necessary to observe to Mies van der Rohe in color, with all his nuances, with his reflections, with smiles, with smoke, with looks at different angles, with proximity. This has been the objective of the last Juan Coll-Barreu talk with his BArch students in Madrid School of Architecture. The talk has ended with the definitve answer to the question you always wanted to ask: "Mr. Mies van der Rohe, do you really said the phrase "Less is more"?"
